Lull in the lessons updates…

26 11 2009

Hey Kalyespeakers! Sorry if we haven’t uploaded new audio lessons in the past month or so. We’re encountering some technical difficulties with our stock of old lessons (i.e. crashed computer!).

But don’t worry, you can still get your daily fix of Kalyespeak by following our twitter account. Just follow us @kalyespeak and we’ll be teaching fresh Filipino words and phrases every day!

hey guys…

still really like your podcast.. I have a question… can you recommend any modern Tagalog songs / bands / artists? I would like to listen more to Tagalog… and would like to listen to Tagalog music or watch Tagalog movies… but I am having troubles finding anything like that to buy… there should be a way to order this kind of stuff online, right?! any recommendations were I could find something like this?

Also I was wondering: I am quite sure you get to see the Hollywood movies in the Philippines as well.. are they in English only or dubbed or with subtitles?

Guten tag Amy!

If you like Filipino music, check on bands like Imago (who sings the Tara Let’s song), Bamboo, Urbandub, Eraserheads, and Kjwan (my personal favorite). They all have songs in Tagalog and English, so they’re a good way to practice your listening skills. I’m not really sure if you can find them on iTunes though…

For Tagalog movies, try watching One More Chance, Dubai or I Love You, Goodbye. Those are pretty decent Filipino romantic movies. By all means, stay away from Wapakman (the movie of Manny Pacquiao), that was a really bad movie, from what we’ve heard.

Regarding your question on Hollywood movies, we get them here in English. And we don’t really have them dubbed or with subtitles since most Filipinos understand English. 🙂

U guys are greattttttttttt !! I’ve downloaded all your lessons already (PS. NEED MORE). I actually just got back from the Philippines (taga Canada ako – – hehehe that was taught in one of ur lessons – BOOOYAAAA) and it was ammmmmazzzzing. I’m contemplating whether or not to move down there lol. Though both my parents are Filipino, I CANNOT speak tagalog. This was by far the most annoying part of being in the Philippines: NOT understanding many of my family members and new friends that I met. So when I arrived back in Canada I told myself I would seriously put more effort in learning the language. Your podcasts are very entertaining as well as educational. Please post new podcasts soooooon. (PS. next time you make a podcast, make a shout out to MEEEE ahahahaha) KITA KITZ !!!!!!

Yea I was in Manila a few days. Went to Mall of Asia, watched a PBA game, (Sayang, they were actually sold out of coutside seats – which cost only about $10 bucks canadian. If you watch a Toronto Raptors game – courtside seats can cost as much as $1000 bucks canadian!!!!), went to Ocean Park. I Stopped by San Fernando Pampanga, went to Sorsogon. We actually saw and took pics with James Yap at a restaurant in Manila (near the Shangri La shopping mall). I had an AMAZIN TIME. There’s still lots of things to do and sooo many family members to vist. I’m comin back within a year FO SHO !!!!

Hey Brian! Glad you like OPM or original pinoy music. You can try checking out the past episodes because we put the website of the artists that we use in our songs. It’ll refer you to their websites, where you can get the latest songs from them. 🙂

We have a facebook page! Just search for kalyespeak! Salamat uli!
